Common signs of pregnancy
Pregnancy can look very different from one person to the next. Some people notice changes within a couple of weeks; others have almost no early symptoms. The most reliable way to know is a pregnancy test after a missed period, followed by an ultrasound.
Symptoms people commonly notice
Missed period
A missed or unusually light period is the most common early indicator, though stress and other factors can also delay a cycle.
Nausea or queasiness
"Morning" sickness is a misnomer — nausea can show up at any time of day and often starts around weeks 4 to 6.
Breast tenderness
Soreness, swelling, or a heavy feeling in the breasts is common in the first weeks and is caused by hormone changes.
Tiredness
Unusual fatigue in the first trimester is one of the most reported symptoms.
Increased urination
You may find yourself needing to use the bathroom more often, even before a missed period.
Spotting or light cramping
Light spotting or mild cramping can occur around the time of a missed period and is sometimes confused with an early period.
Sensitivity to smells or food
Stronger reactions to smells, new aversions, or new cravings are common early signs.
